Reading & Writing Tutoring for Autistic Kids · Online & Santa Fe, NM

Reading & writing tutoring built around how your child processes the world.

One-on-one support that starts with understanding your child, not fitting them into a standard lesson plan. Multisensory, predictable, and built on genuine connection. This isn't a separate autism-only program, it's the same reading and writing tutoring I do with every student, adapted to how your child processes and communicates.

Understanding Each Student

Every autistic student is different, and that's the starting point

There's no single "autism approach" that works for every student, because no two autistic kids process language, sensory input, or social interaction the same way. What matters is a tutor who observes closely and adapts, rather than applying one method to every child.

What I pay attention to

  • Sensory preferences and what helps them stay regulated
  • Special interests I can build lessons around
  • What engaged and comfortable looks like for them, and what helps them get there
  • Deep listening to what they might need vs. my agenda in the moment

What tends to help

  • Predictable session structure and clear expectations
  • Multisensory teaching over language-heavy explanation alone
  • Patience with processing time, no rushing to respond
  • Incorporating special interests into reading and writing practice
  • A calm, trauma-informed, low-pressure environment
My Approach

Social-emotional foundation, not just academics

I use a hybrid, multisensory approach to reading and writing, but I also bring specific training in SocialThinking.com methodology and a trauma-informed practice, both of which matter enormously for autistic students. I'm also a certified somatic coach, which helps me stay attuned to what a student's body is telling me even when words are harder to access in the moment.

Questions Parents Ask

Reading & writing tutoring for autistic kids, answered honestly

How do you adapt sessions for autistic students specifically?

I start by observing and listening, to your child and to you, before assuming what will work. From there I build a predictable structure that flexes around their sensory needs, communication style, and interests.

Does online tutoring work well for autistic kids?

Often, yes, sometimes even better than in-person. If we choose to do sessions online together, a screen can actually reduce sensory overwhelm and social pressure for some students. Every child is different, and I'm happy to talk through whether that seems like a good fit for yours.

What if my child has had a hard time with tutors before?

That's more common than you'd think, and it's exactly why I take the time upfront to understand your child before diving into academics. Trust and comfort come first.
